Hot Weather, Hot Coffee and a Cool Porto place to Stay

Portuguese Travel Coffee
The great cup of coffee in the photo I got in the neighbourhood cafè across the street from the apartment.
It is 30+ degrees Celsius this week in Porto. Coming from the usually cool Netherlands, that means move slower, and above all, take deep breath and be cool.
Anyway, I arrived in Porto late at night with Ryanair in seat 1 A (that seat is for super models with size minus zero hips, not for travel bloggers who eat). I did fit and got out without getting stuck, but you can feel the Ryanair price tag squeezing. Good thing is, I only drank hot chocolate without sugar, very rich and tasty (3 euro Ryan Air deal).
The Porto Metro Line E took me straight from the airport to Trindade Station. Afterwards I am very glad and happy I took a suitcase with wheels for the trip. The apartment is on an up the hill street and ten minutes is a firm walk with 11 kilo’s in your hand. Of course a backpack does the job just as well
I got a friendly welcome by Gundega and Pedro, the hosts. The apartment has been restored very nice, the walls are made out natural stones. That is a plus when it gets hot outside, inside you stay cool (just make sure to cover the windows when the sun is out and hot). The apartment is very clean, and hosts very attentive. They gifted me bottle of Portuguese ‘green’ white wine. Very nice and sparkly served cold. They also gave me lots of suggestions to explore Porto.
I was surprised to see that many houses in the neighbourhood are abandoned and not maintained. Still there are many small shops, small restaurants, a pharmacy and more. Even though quite a few houses are empty and waiting for a new owner, the neighbourhood does not feel unsafe. Even when you walk down the street at 11.30 pm.
The apartment has free WI-FI, and Porto has WI-FI in the city (you do need an account, but this was also taken care of by the Gundega and Pedro).
