There are currently seven official public holidays in China: New Year's Day, Chinese New Year (the Spring Festival), Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day.

7 Major Holidays in China
Chinese people celebrate 7 major holidays with a few days off. If the holiday lands on a weekend, the days will be reimbursed after the weekend.
1. New Year's Day
New Year's Day, which is the first day of the year in the modern Gregorian calendar, is a festival observed in most countries of the world. It is also one of the public holidays in China and people usually have 3 days off.

2. Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, is the most important holiday in China. Chinese New Year date falls on the first day of the first lunar month, which varies from year to year. It usually falls between 21 January and 20 February in the Gregorian calendar.
During the festival, Chinese people get 7 days off from work. All family members will get together to celebrate, just like Christmas in the West.

3. Qingming Festival
The Qingming Festival, or Tomb Sweeping Day, is a special Chinese holiday for the remembrance of ancestors. During this festival, people visit the tombs of their ancestors to pay their respects and make ritual offerings.

4. May Day
May Day, also known as Labour Day, is an international holiday observed in many countries. In China, people could have 5 days off for this holiday. It is one of the peak tourist periods during the year.

5. Dragon Boat Festival
The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional holiday in China which has a history of more than 2,000 years. It falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, which corresponds to May or June in the Gregorian calendar.
Customs and activities during the Dragon Boat festival include dragon boat racing, making and eating Zongzi, traditional Chinese rice dumplings, with family members, and drinking realgar wine.

6. Mid-Autumn Festival
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday that has its history dating back over 3,000 years. It is the second most important festival in China which occurs on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar with a full moon at night.
It is also a festival for family reunions. Chinese people make and share mooncakes and light lanterns to celebrate.

7. National Day
In China, the National Day is celebrated on October 1st to commemorate the establishment of the People's Republic of China. Chinese people have 7 days off to celebrate this holiday. It is also a peak tourist period called the "Golden Week".
